FINANCIAL COACHING FOR ARTISTS

A couple years ago, I was tired of feeling like I didn’t know how to manage my finances. I was working as a theatre and film actor, trying to save every penny, and was stressed every year around tax season. Finally, one year, I hired a CPA - a former dancer -  who knew how to do taxes for artists.

Chatting with my accountant was the beginning of my financial literacy journey. Since then I’ve helmed and managed the finances for a number of my large independent projects, begun investing, and become in control of my finances.

I no longer feel (as much) financial strain and worry, and it’s a great place to be. However, I began to chat within my community and discovered that many of my friends and fellow artists felt as I had felt. Some had too many credit cards and no idea how to pay them down, some could not stick to a budget, some were years behind on taxes with no idea of how to save for tax season. And most of them didn’t have anyone to ask.

Confronting finances can be scary. Many people don’t like talking about them. Luckily, I do.
